Classic...

Last night's game to end the NCAA D1 tourney ended up with Duke winning a classic game...to top off what has been a classic past three weeks of the NCAA Tournament! I don't think I sat down and watched any game that wasn't competitive. I mean, last night's game ended up being one for the ages in, what could arguably be called, the greatest 3 weeks of college basketball ever!
So, now that it's over what do we move on to next? Well, the NHL and the NBA playoffs are about to start in a few days. MLB just started...but that will be around for quite a while. How about UFC 112 this Saturday night? That's gonna be a good one to watch. I'm looking forward to seeing one of my faves Matt Hughes take on Renzo Gracie, as well as Anderson Silva and BJ Penn defend their belts.
Just because the tourney's over doesn't mean that life is....it goes on! Take your pick from many sports to choose from! Be well and enjoy the show! PP

The Most Exciting Thing off the Field!

Here is a list of things that I really enjoy in sports:
1.College Football
2.Pro Football
3.Hockey
4.College Basketball
5. NFL Draft
6.NASCA.....wait! What? Yes, I said the NFL draft! The draft is coming up in a few weeks and the talk about "who is picking whom" is more rampant now than all year long! The draft is cool because it is that "bridge" to the pros - the cross between two of my favorite things to watch. Where will my favorite college player play next year? Who will my NFL team draft to make them one step closer to the promise land? All of these questions will be answered on April 22, 2010, starting at 7:30 EST...check your local listings. You can view mock drafts from various experts at the following websites:
http://www.nfl.com/
http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/draft-central
As the draft approaches watch these sites and get ready to buy your favorite player's pro jersey. Be well and enjoy the show! PP

UFC 111

Well, I'll be the first to say that I am not the biggest UFC nut in the world, but I am a more than casual fan. I am really looking forward to watching my second PPV and I am extremely excited about the card for tomorrow night! Some of us guys from the church are going to get together and hope for destruction while we watch these modern day gladiators go after each other.
The UFC has really taken off over the past few years. Some of the world's greatest MMA fighters have come there to test their skill against each other. What I like about watching the UFC is that it's not all about who is the best on the mic between the fights(see Frank Mir's comments about Brock Lesnar). It's not about theatrical ring entrances and the catchy theme music, with the exception of a few. It's about skill, determination, and sheer will to beat the other guy across from you in the octagon. The UFC is the "ultimate FIGHTING championship," pure and simple.
While I wish that the fighters could fight more often than every 3-5 months so the bigger stars could be showcased more on regular TV, I do get the reasons for it are legit. This is not like the WWE I watched growing up. This is real! I do anticipate a great event tomorrow night as we gather round the plasma and watch the electricty that is the UFC! Be well and enjoy the show! PP
Here's a link for the event tomorrow night: http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=EventDetail.home&eid=2747
Here's the co-main for the card:
Welterweight Championship: St. Pierre v Hardy
Interim HW Championship: Frank Mir v Shane Carwin

SUDDEN LIFE???

That's what the NFL owners voted (28 for to 4 opposed) to give to a team who would lose on a first drive Field Goal if the rule stayed to same....in the play-offs, mind you. Here's the breakdown: if my team wins the coin toss and we get the ball and score a FG on the first offensive drive, under the old rule you lose. Under the new rule you get a chance to either A.)Tie the game with a FG of your own, or B.)Score a touch down and win the game for your team outright. If the game happens to become tied in OT after two field goals, then it is sudden death as usual. Once again, this rule is only for the play-offs, which is inconsistent. That raises a few thoughts in my head:
1. What happens if a team loses in OT during the regular season and that loss puts them out of the play-offs without the same chance they could've had in the playoffs?
2. What happens if, after the two initial field goals that tie the game in OT, that neither team score for a LONG time? The game could've been ended under the old rule.
3. I like the rule change but it should be for "both seasons," regular and post. The rule creates some excitement that would negate the "long run back on the OT kickoff" that leads to a chip shot, virtually handing the win to whoever won the coin toss. I know, they still had to make the couple of plays to get the win but even at that point the winning team plays for the FG, not the TD. Besides, remember when the college football purists hated the adding of overtime to their game so that the dreaded TIE would be ousted? It's been OK.
I guess the only thing that'll prove this change to be good or bad is time and instances in which it'll be used. For now, I vote YES. It's no different to me than the shootout vs OT rule in playoff hockey. But, oh yeah, I'm a hockey fan and you're not. Be well and enjoy the show! PP

Mid-Major Achievement

After the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament there are still FIVE mid-major conference teams still standing in the Sweet Sixteen. Yes, I said FIVE!!! Even though these teams are good and super competitive, and maybe they should've been seeded higher than the 12 and 5 and 9's and such, but that doesn't change the facts that these "upsets" happened over the past four days. Truly remarkable.
So, how many of you have had your brackets blown up? My eventual champ Kentucky is still in it, but, like most of America, my brackets are doing not so good. Tell us here at Percy's Post how your bracket is doing. Until then, be well and enjoy the show! PP

Should be dancing....

I bet the Georgetowns, Vanderbilts, and Notre Dames of the world, as well as other high seeds who have seen their dance card vut short are saying that right now: "I should be dancing..." Well, guess what, you had your shot and, in losing in the first round, cut your dance short and have provided perhaps the two most exciting days of NCAA tournament history. Almost all of the games have gone down to the wire and, even though my team's no longer in play, they provided me a dramatic performance on their way out. So, as the second round plays out over the next two days...."I should be dancing..." Be well and enjoy the show! PP

Who's the Master?

So, Tiger Woods has let all of us know that he's returning to golf at the Masters. THANK GOD! I can't tell you how long I've been waiting to have my itching desire to have my, and perhaps all of the world's assumption confirmed! Well, yes I can - since the day he took a leave of absence from what is an irrelevant sport anyway. Tiger is a relevant athlete in a world (golf) that no one seems to care about unless he is there. To my point: the casual "rehab" fan around the world finally found out that they have a rehabilitation for rich, powerful, famous athletes that cheat on their wives. I guess he was "addicted" to cheating on his wife. Wow! Anyway, back to my point. I think that I'd heard of that before (I have lived a relatively sheltered life, though) but I know for sure I've heard of it now. Rehab for sex became more relevant because Tiger was there, not the next average Joe in the room next to him.
Make that same point with golf. The average fan, like myself, will pay attention to something big, like the Masters or the other majors, but not much else UNLESS there is a hype of Tiger playing on the weekend. Sad, but true.
So, Tiger was the lead of all the sports shows I like to watch yesterday, and he will be today...but at least we have the Big Dance starting tomorrow. Thank you, Jesus!
All that to say this: I hope Tiger comes back to golf and he gets on with his life...that's right, his LIFE. Professional golf is his job. Any other man who goes through this on his own level just moves on(through hard work) and fixes his mistakes with his wife and family and goes to work. We just happen to have the opportunity to watch this mortal begin his trek back to normalcy on national television. I'll watch and may root for him to be there at the end...so he can get beat by someone I'd cheer for. Such is the sports life. Be well and enjoy the show! PP
Oh yeah - Here's a big PS - ESPN, stop filling twitter and facebook with ads for Obama filling out his bracket! Making me seriously dislike you...

FINAL FOUR PICKS

So, now that you've had a chance look over the brackets for a day let's see who you got, as they say! First and foremost I'd like to say that I am NOT a college basketball expert, though I do love to watch when I can. The brackets are interesting, to say the least.
First let's take a look at the Midwest. This one contains #1 overall seed Kansas. They've got to be the odds on favorite to win another one for former Illinois coach Bill Self (traitor). Their toughest competition would appear to be any one of the top seeds from the bottom of the bracket: Ohio State, Georgetown, or dark horse Tennessee, capable of a big game when necessary. Through all of teams here I'd have to go with "Rock, chalk, Jayhawk" Kansas.
Next we move on to the West bracket: With their first # 1 seed since 1980 Syracuse seemed to be poised to take this region just a week and a half ago. But recent struggles over the last couple of games have put some doubt in the minds of Orange supporters. That makes the pick from this region a little tougher to make. A possible match up with the always cinderella-ish Gonzaga could be intriguing for the 'Cuse but they should handle them. The toughest competition for the Final Four bid in the West could be Kansas State, who this guy is picking to make the trip to Indy for the championship weekend.
The East Bracket: Number 1 seed Kentucky, my favorite to win, seems to only have one "hard" game ahead if the seeds hold, that being West Virginia. We'll see, but this could just be a trap for weak minded fans like me.
Last is the South Region: I am admittedly a Duke hater, but this prediction has nothing to do with that. Cal, Louisville, or Texas A&M could give them a game before they even get to the Sweet 16. I'm not saying, but I hope they go out...or maybe they'll get a rematch with my Final Four pick from this region, Villanova.
So, to recap, my Final Four picks are Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, and Villanova. My pick to win it all is Kentucky....save some face for the SEC this year. Oh well, let's hear your picks. Be well and enjoy the show! PP

Memories of Tourneys Past...

So, what do you think of the field? Who, in your opinion, got the snub? Who is you early favorite? Which bracket do you think the eventual champ will come from? Which conference do you think the champ will come from? All of these are great questions I am going to ponder for the next day as I fill my brackets out for various contests. As for the tournament, it was always a staple of TV in our home when I was a teen. I can remember the talk as kids and the small "bets" we'd make with each other over who'd win the final game...good times! I used to rush home to see the early round games that were on during the day. I can remember Thursdays and Fridays being able to stay up late and watch until the last West Coast game was finished. Many moments stick out in my mind from tournaments I watched as a kid: Chris Webber's "time out" that sealed the win for the Heels; Duke's win over Kentucky with Laettner's turnaround jumper from the foul line and many more I could recall. The tourney is such a cool event to be able to see each year.Good luck to all of you on your brackets and enjoy The Dance!!! Be well and enjoy the show. PP
P.S. - Here's a good web page where you can find, follow, and print your brackets for the NCAA http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/mayhem/brackets/viewable_men?tag=pageContainer;column_3l Championships.

Percy's Post is here!

Hey everyone! My name is Pete and I hail from the great state of Florida! I am a fan of all things Gators, especially football and basketball. In fact, Percy's Post is named after one of my top 3 favorite Gators of all time, Percy Harvin (the others being Emmitt Smith and Tim Tebow). I love him so much I gave my cat the name Percy.

Anyway, enough of that for now. Let's get to the mission statement of Percy's Post: To have a place to voice our opinions, chat about our common interests, and debate the things we may disagree on; to keep all things clean and in line with the values we uphold as Christians; and last but not least, have FUN while we're doing it!!!

Anyone who reads this is welcome to post comments....I can't wait! Enjoy March Madness! PP will be blogging about that soon!
